Thank you for visiting the Lion Salt Works Trust web site.
The Lion Salt Works Project is awaiting news from the Heritage Lottery Fund that a Stage 2 award has been confirmed, to help restore the Lion Salt Works. The capital costs of the conservation work will be carried out by the owners Vale Royal Borough Council, as the Accountable and Lead Body, with financial help from the HLF, Northwest Development Agency and Cheshire County Council.
The Lion Salt Works Trust has championed the conservation work and will continue to manage and the interpretation and educational aspects of the site. A small exhibition is manned daily by a hard working and committed team of volunteers who enable visitors to understand how salt was made here, but also where it fits within the geological story and the continuing evolution of salt making practices.
The Lion Salt Works will emerge as a major visitor destination within the Weaver Valley Regional Park and create strong links with the associated attractions on the River Weaver and the Trent and Mersey Canal such as the Anderton Boat Lift and the salt towns of Middlewich, Winsford and Nantwich.
You can help us develop the interpretation of the Lion Salt Works and the history of salt through an on-line donation, or download a standing order form and gift aid your donation.
Log on to see how this web site brings you regular updates as building works start later in late 2008. Read our archive section and back copies of our quarterly newsletter to see how we have made progress to restore this important site.
Our events and news will be constantly updated, so please visit again.
